Description
This research project was funded by Learning Connections to develop and explore how to enhance literacies learning for adults with learning difficulties by engaging with their systems of care and/or support. A key aim of the project was to support ways for carers and support workers to work effectively with adult literacies tutors to create everyday learning opportunities for people with learning difficulties.
A further project resulted in a report by Lead Scotland emphasising the benefits of engaging carers and supporters with the learning process.
Two seminars - Developing Independence through Literacies Learning - considered the implications of these research and development projects. A report and related resources are available from these events.
The lessons from all of these projects have now been summarised into a practical resource Guidelines for Linking Learning and Care.
We hope they will be useful for 1) learning practitioners and their managers who wish to increase the effectiveness of learning, and 2) care practitioners and their managers who wish to increase the contribution that learning can make to the development of independence
A DVD "Learning for Life and an accompanying worksheet has also been developed alongside the report to support practitioners to use these findings for professional development.
